The 34th World Chess Solving Championship (WCSC) will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 19th and 20th, while the Open Solving Tourney will be on Monday, October 18th. Both events will be conducted by Axel Steinbrink (Germany). Brian Stephenson (Great Britain), Ward Stoffelen (Belgium) and Marco Bonavoglia (Italy) will act as assistants. The material in the Open will be all orthodox, that is the same types as in the WCSC itself. For the exact timetable, please check the congress programme.

As usual, we will organise a Quick ("Machine Gun") Solving Tournament on Tuesday evening, October 19th, open to all congress participants. Thirty twomovers are displayed, one minute per each problem. The solvers write down only the key, a correct answer gets +1 point, an incorrect key means -0.9 point and, of course, 0 points if no answer is given.

Fairy chess fans should not feel disappointed though... On Wednesday, October 20th, they are invited to try their skills in an open solving tournament featuring exclusively fairy chess problems. In the past years, several solvers have asked us to arrange for it; Harry Fougiaxis will select the problems and act as the controller. There will be three directmates, one helpmate, one help-selfmate, one series-helpmate, two selfmates and a reflexmate, i.e. 9 problems in total. Number of moves: three problems in 2, three in 3 and three in more moves. Fairy conditions: circe, anticirce, madrasi. Fairy pieces: grasshopper, lion, nightrider, chinese, equihopper, neutral, royal. Time allowed: 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The traditional Solving Show will be held on Thursday evening, October 21st, and Ioannis Garoufalidis will select the problems and run the event using his own software. Many thanks to Ioannis for the time and efforts he spent on it!
